Kosher Cooking... Solemn Gathering

Welcome to the Kosher Cooking Carnival - KCC - for the Hebrew month of Av. As we enter the nine days of heightened morning over the destruction of the Beit Hamikdash, the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, we take on many morning rituals. We don't wear new clothes, cut our hair, or eat meat. In this spirit, I would like to share my unusually sparse, and completely pescetarian edition of KCC.

To get us in the spirit, let's start with the annual Our Shiputzim: A Work In Progress tradition: Requisite Fast Day Food Post: Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Bars Edition by Mrs. S.

Speaking of shiputzim (renevations), This American Bite is looking good, Yosef! I was just drooling over some vegan Naan Pizza with Zaatar and Eggplant.

Devo K, from In the middle, on the right, had a Spiritual baking experience after reading The Secret of Challah, by Shira Wiener and Ayelet Yifrach.

Right here at Cooking Outside the Box, I've been making Kosher Dill Pickles, from scratch, naturally fermented and full of probiotic goodness. Are you keeping kosher by dying to know what all the fuss is about over "Rooster Sauce"? You can make it yourself! It tastes even better (so I've been told) and is much, MUCH healthier! That's Homemade Sriracha - Thai Chili Sauce, by me, Yosefa, including recipes for matbucha and taco salad.

If you missed Hannah K.'s post on Spotting Bug Infestation in Dried Beans, head on over to Cooking Manager to see pictures of what you should look for to keep your legumes kosher.

Batya has been keeping busy over at me-ander. She made Easy, Homemade Lox and a quick cooked pickle - Perfectly Pickled. She says, "When you have too many cucumbers or other veggies or when the price is great or whatever, try to pickle them. Very easy!"
This month Batya discovered A New Type of Nosh and enjoyed a Good Menu on El Al.

On behalf of all our usual KCC participants, I want to send a huge thank you to Batya for keeping KCC (and a couple other Jewish blog carnivals) running. It can be a messy and often thankless job, but we are all so glad she does it!

That concludes this edition. Submit your blog article to the next edition of kosher cooking carnival-kcc using our carnival submission form. Past posts and future hosts can be found on our blog carnival index page.
